A primary influence of Rock Creek Residence’s custom design was the location and surrounding landscape. The land purchased by this Montana family was relatively flat with abundant trees on the back side of the property. The main view corridor was looking out from the front elevation. So the designer created a layout that provided ample outdoor space on the front of the house and placed the main living spaces through the house in such a way as to take the best advantage of the view. The kitchen and dining room flow together and opens up to the front patio area. The great room looks out past the two-sided fireplace from below while the loft above also takes advantage of the large panes of glass in that wall. Two of the bedrooms are more secluded on the other side of the house, but the master suite was deliberately placed upstairs, over the kitchen, so that the couple could wake up to a picturesque landscape and enjoy coffee on their private balcony. The overall rustic charm of the house is found throughout the home, but is most noticeable when sitting outside on the covered porch where a timber frame truss holds up the extended roof line, above.
