A Touch of Mayberry

The Murray, Saussy Burbank’s model home in Fort Mill, SC’s Masons Bend community, was designed to reflect the farmhouse aesthetic in a modern interpretation.

The natural, unstained cedar elements on the exterior were translated to the interior with unstained white oak floors and knotty pine details. Our interior designer, Susan Hill, really emphasized one of the key principles of design – repetition. The knotty pine ceiling (study), barn doors (study), chevron shiplap details (loft built-ins, fireplace & kitchen island), drop zone, laundry shelving & open shelving in kitchen all convey the rustic, traditional elements of a farmhouse set against an entirely soft white palette. This allows the beautiful details of the knotty pine wood, as well as the black door hardware with backplates, to stand out.

The modern elements of lighting and furnishing throughout help to create a nice dichotomy to the traditional farmhouse approach. The kitchen provides a large gathering spot, showcasing stacked kitchen cabinets that were designed to reflect more appropriate proportions consistent with a farmhouse aesthetic. The master bedroom, adjacent to the kitchen, is bright, airy and modern, while the master bathroom evokes the farmhouse aesthetic through the tile accents and cabinetry.

Upstairs, the loft provides a cozy room to enjoy a movie with beautiful built-ins, while the secondary bedrooms offer a relaxing, modern retreat.

The art collection throughout the home was curated by local Fort Mill and Rock Hill artists. The art helps to carry vibrant colors throughout the home, creating a cohesive concept.

The casual, livable interior feels both unfussy and laid back, lending itself to what families and couples alike are looking for in the community.
