Incredible Transformation of a Paul Williams Design
The owners liked the circular geometry of the original Paul Williams design, but the existing property was primarily one story with low ceilings, small windows and dark interiors. The remodeler studied the work of Paul Williams and the renovation pays tribute to the original architectural concept while providing an elegant update for today’s family life. Living spaces and circulation were all changed, the ceilings were raised, square footage was added on the second floor, and a more formal paving and garden design was incorporated to better suit the needs of a contemporary lifestyle.
On the first floor a bright entry, living room, dining room and library all open to a spacious terrace overlooking the expansive gardens on this lush, green site. The updated kitchen with casual dining area and family/TV room also enjoy beautiful garden views.
The central stair foyer leads to an expanded master suite with his and hers closets and bathrooms. An intimate study and private terrace make this wing of the house a beautiful retreat. The expanded upper floor also allowed space for three children’s bedrooms and a shared study/art room.
The new design integrated the house and the site. The updated residence takes advantage of the sloping site with newly created terraced gardens, water features, and a large lawn area for play and entertaining. The pool cabana/guest house provides a focal point at the end of the gardens. The new pool and outdoor BBQ area are conveniently connected to the main lawn above and easily accessible from the main house.
