Home of the Week: Lighthaus

The owners wanted the experience of living in a “glass lantern” in their family retreat on Lake McQueeney (Texas), along the Guadalupe River.

The compact, three-story home was designed to feel both connected with and grounded to the site with its wood-clad lower level…

…which is used for storage since the seasonal flood events required the main living spaces to be 11 feet above the shoreline.

The outdoor “lantern” feel of the main living room, with three sides of steel-framed glass…

…allows one to feel as though they are outside and connected to the natural setting.

Judges noted it was “one of the most creative of all BALA submissions” and “very innovative.”
