One of the unique challenges of our Home of the Week was designing to meet the varied wishes of the clients who were from both the U.S. and Wales. Meet European Lake Retreat of Salem, S.C.
The exterior of the home utilizes native stonework along with wavy-edged wood siding. Large stone arches and heavy timbers are used on the exterior front and rear porches and throughout the interior as well.
The interior design is unique in that it mixed refined European elements with the more rustic exterior. A custom hand-carved Italian stone fireplace surround and mantle were used to soften its central location in the great room.
The kitchen cabinets are anchored by a large island made of reclaimed French oak, and a beautiful red French Lacanche range was imported and centered along one wall.
