Helping the Confused Consumer
10:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Presented by Mike Hetherman. Designing and renovating home spaces requires many detailed decisions to be made, oftentimes creating confusion amidst the many options. Join Mike Hetherman as he shares several processes to relieve consumer confusion and, ultimately, close more sales.

Presented by Josh Jackson, LP Building Products. For builders to create a competitive differentiator for their business in 2018, they should think beyond the exterior design, high price cabinets and floor finishes. In the social media age, builders can and should look at what customers are pinning, sharing and tweeting to keep a pulse on growing trends and buyer demand. Social media has created false expectations in the marketplace as it relates to cost, speed and expertise needed to execute a design. However, where there is false expectation there is also opportunity for home builders to step in and bridge the gap. Learn how to cost-effectively source products for the social media generation.

Designing World Class House Plans
1:15 PM – 1:45 PM

Presented by Jamie Walker, Walker Home Design. Why do some homes cost more than others to build, when their square footages are similar? Why do some have better curb appeal than others? Would you like to avoid $100’s and sometimes $1,000’s in fixes on your build job? After years of coordinating with builders and subcontractors, we have developed a way to create plans that are economical to build, functional to live in, and attractive to look at. If you are ready to start thinking differently, then come prepared to learn 8 secrets to creating a world class house plan!

Presented by Renee Labbe, Broadside Studios. How does the consumer of tomorrow impact the design decisions you make today?  This session details the coming design aesthetics – exteriors / interiors, key styles, materials, finishes, & palettes – that will result from cultural and economic shifts and their subsequent impact on consumer preferences.

Green By Design
9:45 AM – 10:15 AM

Presented by Senen Antonio, DPZ CoDESIGN. As green design comes to the forefront of master planning, traditional resort towns such as Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach and WaterColor offer valuable lessons. These towns are known as models for compact, walkable and diverse neighborhoods, but they are also among the few built explicitly environmental communities, incorporating and implementing green development practices before they were popular or required by regulation.

Sprawl Repair
11:45 AM – 12:15 PM

Presented by Galina Tachieva, DPZ CoDESIGN. Galina Tachieva, Managing Partner at DPZ CoDesign and author of the “Sprawl Repair Manual”, will discuss shifting market trends that are driving an urgent re-thinking of current residential development patterns. This “next frontier” reimagines and reorganizes single-use development into complete, livable, robust communities. The program will discuss design and implementation techniques at various scales, including reducing regulatory barriers, and offer a practical step-by-step path toward a better suburb.

Presented by Dave Brown, Hoffman York. As a follow-up to findings from an in-depth research study, Napoleon partnered with award-winning architect Wayne Visbeen to develop the latest design trends and specific ideas that enable you to design more appealing homes and rooms.  This presentation will give you some of the insights in Napoleon’s 62-page design guide.

Presented by Chantale Pitts, Cadsoft. This seminar covers the advantages and limitations of an assortment of virtual reality technology available for home building. We will review the power of being fully immersed in a design, the relative ease of adopting VR, how it can influence choices, how it can expedite the sales process and how to use VR creatively when marketing homes.
Thursday, January 11

Presented by Kay Green, Kay Green Design, Inc. When we discuss interior design, we talk about how to achieve a specific look, which decorating style you should emulate, and what new design trends you should know about. That’s only one piece of the puzzle. What does science say about how to plan better communities, creative innovative spaces, and design better models? We start by understanding how people act, think, and feel in natural and built environments. In this presentation, you will discover how to use psychology to understand person-place interactions.

Presented by Maxine Lauer, Sphere Trending. This presentation will cover how household composition and cultural shifts are updating community and impacting amenities and spaces. Trends will be supported by big picture societal shifts and demonstrated with impactful visuals and best of class examples. Drawing from surrounding environments and future thinking, this presentation provide a deep dive into what the future of community will mean for builders, developers, architects, and designers.

Presented by Anne Bassett and Chris Cazzolli, James Hardie Building Products. To remain true to the highest architectural standards, you must craft home exteriors with a variety of products, profiles, textures, widths and colors. Seize this opportunity to learn how you can mix materials, products and profiles to achieve the ultimate in aesthetics – from ultra-modern to traditional – without sacrificing performance. See how today’s most effective exterior solutions improve people’s lives by delivering design flexibility with the strength to withstand time and nature.
